The fire that broke out this afternoon in the bush of Graçana, Arcos de Valdevez, is being extinguished on site by about 120 operators with the help of 34 vehicles.
According to an official source from the National Civil Protection Authority, the warning was issued at 15:24. It is expected to be under control by nightfall, although the fact that it is a mountainous area makes fighting the fire more unpredictable.
Speaking to Lusa, a source from the Alto Minho sub-regional command, based in Viana do Castelo, explained that “the right flank and the head of the fire are predominant.”
The same source added that “ground resources are being transferred to the left flank of the fire.”
The flames are raging in a hard-to-reach area of mixed settlement and bush.
A source in the Alto Minho subregional command said the flames were not threatening homes.
On Monday, another fire in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez forced the EN303 route to be cut.
