Chega sent the government two questions he would like to see in the immigration referendum.
The questions proposed by Chega are: “Do you agree that the Assembly of the Republic sets each year the maximum limit for the issuance of residence permits to foreign nationals?” and “Do you agree that Portugal will introduce a system of immigration quotas that will be reviewed annually and oriented towards the country’s global economic interests and the needs of the labour market?”
Chegi’s intention to hold a referendum was put forward, first of all, Morning mailon Sunday. The proposal, confirmed Tuesday by Andre Ventura, will be made before the debate on this year’s state budget.
Chega makes the approval of the 2025 state budget contingent on the approval of the SDP referendum.
