According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), thirteen municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Castelo Branco and Faro are at maximum risk of rural fires this Friday.
IPMA has also placed several municipalities in all districts of mainland Portugal at very high fire risk.
The highest maximum temperature forecast for this Friday will be reached in Castelo Branco with 35 degrees Celsius, followed by Bragança with 34, Evora with 33 and Beja with 32.
IPMA estimates that fire danger will remain in some areas until at least Tuesday.
This risk, defined by IPMA, has five levels, from low to maximum. The calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and the amount of precipitation over the past 24 hours.
In Madeira, where a rural fire has been raging for more than a week, the fire danger is lower this Friday than on Thursday, but some areas are in the high and moderate risk zone.
IPMA has extended the yellow warning for the south coast of Madeira until 18:00 this Friday due to hot weather.
A yellow warning is issued by IPMA when a risk situation arises for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
IPMA forecasts partly cloudy to clear skies across the continent this Friday, cloudy skies on the west coast until late morning which may persist in some places, fog or mist on the west coast, generally light winds which may be moderate and at times strong from the north in the mountains of the central and south coast until mid-morning.
A slight increase in maximum temperatures is also expected, especially inside the Center.
Minimum temperatures will range from 13 degrees (in Vila Real, Bragança and Viseu) to 19 (in Faro), and maximum temperatures will range from 23 (in Viana do Castelo) to 35 (in Castelo Branco).
For the Madeira archipelago, IPMA is forecasting periods of very cloudy weather this Friday, with light rain possible in the afternoon on the northern slopes and highlands of Madeira Island.
The forecast also indicates light to moderate winds from the north/northeast, sometimes strong in the highlands and in the extreme east and west of Madeira Island.
In Funchal, temperatures will range from 22 to 26 degrees Celsius, and in Porto Santo from 22 to 27 degrees.
