Venezuelan opposition candidate summoned for criminal investigation on Monday

Venezuelan opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, who claims victory in the July 28 presidential elections in which President Nicolás Maduro was declared re-elected, was summoned to the ministry this Saturday to face a criminal investigation on Monday.

“Citizen Edmundo González Urrutia” has been summoned “on August 26 at 10:00 a.m. to a hearing related to the investigation into the website on which the opposition published its presidential results,” according to a summons posted on social networks.

Venezuela’s Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced on Friday that Edmundo González Urrutia would be summoned, explaining that the “site” had “usurped” the power of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
