Earthquake registered off the coast of Portugal was felt in Spain

The earthquake recorded at dawn on Monday off the coast of Portugal was felt in Andalusia, especially in the provinces of Huelva and Seville, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) reported.

According to the Instituto Português do Mare, the earthquake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 05:11 and had an epicentre 58 kilometres west of Sines, in the Setúbal region. It has not yet caused any personal or material damage. atmosphere (IPMA).

According to IGN, an organization affiliated with the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.5 and was felt, as several users on social media such as X said, without causing casualties or damage.

The Andalusia Emergency Coordination Centre 112 has registered more than 15 calls from people warning of an earthquake, especially from Huelva, but there have been no reports of personal or material damage, a spokesman told EFE.

Notifications were received specifically from the municipalities of Seville, Jaén and the capital Huelva, Lepe, Villarrasa, Isla Cristina and Ayamonte.

In turn, the official emergency channel of the Seville City Council, through a publication on the social network X, reported that the earthquake was also noticed in different parts of the Andalusian capital, such as Triana, Genaro Parlade Street or Reina Mercedes Avenue.

Meanwhile, Europa Press reported, based on information from IGN, that seven autonomous communities in the west of the peninsula, including Extremadura, felt the earthquake.

The earthquake was felt with greater force (grade III), particularly in La Zarza, Puebla de la Reina, Villafranca de los Barros, Olivenza, La Albuera, Barcarrota in Badajoz.

Cities in Cáceres also felt the earthquake, although of degree II, such as Trujillo, Arroyo de la Luz, Alburquerque or Casar de Cáceres, among others.

In Galicia, the effects of the earthquake were felt in the provinces of Ourense, Pontevedra and A Coruña. In particular, it was noted with greater intensity (grade III), although weakly, in the Pontevedra localities of Arcade (Sotomayor), Vilasobroso (Mondariz), Cristinhade and Ursela (Pontearei), Ia (San Miguel), Rebordans (San Bartolomeu), Saiñas (San Xurjo), Paredes and Guarda (Santa Maria).

O Irixo was felt in Ourense and in La Coruña in Padrón.

According to IGN, at grade II, tremor is felt only in isolated cases by people in particularly sensitive positions inside buildings, which it does not affect in any way.

At degree III, seismic movement is felt inside buildings, where people at rest feel a slight vibration or tremor, and hanging objects sway slightly.

In the event of earthquakes, the Andalusia 112 emergency service recommends a series of preventive measures to reduce risks and promote public safety.
