A 34-year-old man was arrested in Gondomar, Porto district, on suspicion of committing a crime involving extortion with the use of firearms, the Judicial Police (PJ) announced today.
The statement from the investigative bodies says that the detainee “under the pretext of a supposedly already repaid debt” and “by threatening the physical integrity of the victim and his family” began to extort money from him, “forcing him to make three deliveries of cash on different days, starting on August 20.”
The arrest took place at the moment when the detainee was receiving the sum of money that he demanded from the victim.
According to the SP, the detainee, who is unemployed, has already been charged with crimes against personal freedom, physical integrity and property, and also has a conviction for driving without a license.
The man was brought before the competent judicial authority, ordered to remain in his home under electronic surveillance, and held in prison until the devices were installed.
