Workers at the Carris transport company will go on strike on September 18 after meeting with company management today and receiving no response to their demands, according to the union.
“The meeting ended without a positive answer to the questions of updating salaries and moving to 35 hours a week,” said Manuel Leal, leader of the Portuguese Road and Urban Transport Workers’ Union (STRUP), who met today with the Carris administration, Companhia Carris de Ferro de Lisboa, the public transport operator in the capital.
Therefore, he added, the union “will give notice of the strike on September 18, as was decided at the plenary meeting of the workers.”
The 24-hour strike will cover all sectors of the company.
Carris workers are demanding a wage increase of 100 euros per table and a reduction in working hours to 35 hours per week, including travel time during working hours, as well as an update on the amount of food benefits.
In the meantime, the company made the €60 update, but the union is now asking for €40 to be added to match the €100 extra demand in the table.
In July, Carris workers went on partial strike to demand better working conditions.
