Wounds of 11-year-old boy stabbed to death in Spain consistent with weapon found by authorities

Authorities say the injuries of Matteo, an 11-year-old boy stabbed to death Aug. 18 in Toledo, Spain, are consistent with a knife found last Tuesday near the home of the killer’s alleged father. El Espanyol.

Sources in the investigation reported EFE that the knife is being analyzed by the Institute of Forensic Medicine to conduct the necessary comparisons pending confirmation of the previously conducted tests.

Samples of biological remains from the knife were sent to the Secrim laboratory, the forensic service of the Civil Guard.

The clothes of the suspected perpetrator, Juan Francisco, are also being analyzed. Although the blood was not visible to the naked eye, the Civil Guard dog that identified the knife also noticed the young man’s clothes in the photos released from the time of the attack, so samples were sent to the lab.

On August 22, the Instructional Court No. 3 of Toledo ordered the preventive detention without bail of the alleged perpetrator of the crime and also ordered the judicial institutions to transfer the defendant “to a center, unit or department appropriate to the situation.” The young man suffers from a disability.

The judge has already acknowledged the suspect’s disability, which his father has claimed is severe mental retardation, and has requested expert testimony before sentencing him. The investigation is now focused on deciphering what drove 20-year-old Juan Francisco to commit the crime and whether the young man knew what he was doing.

The detainee was placed in the Ocaña 1 penitentiary center in Toledo.
