Most taxpayers will benefit from the refund mechanism included in the new IRS withholding tables, but anyone who becomes unemployed or is on maternity leave will have to wait until 2025 for a refund.
These cases were referred to Luse by Luis Leon of the consultancy Ilya, with the inspector noting that anyone with a record of remuneration in the first months of 2024 but for some reason is currently not working and not receiving a salary may not be covered for the specially reduced withholding rates that will apply in September and October.
“For those who are on maternity leave or have been laid off, the tax will only be settled in 2025,” the inspector explained.
