Nurses from the local health department of Arco Ribeirinho (ULSAR) are demonstrating on Thursday at the hospital do Barreiro, demanding that the administration regulate the situations of progression and overtime pay, a union source told Lusa this Wednesday.
Speaking to Lusa, Zoraima Prado of the Portuguese Nurses Union (SEP) explained that on Thursday morning, ULSRAR nurses will gather at the Do Barreiro Hospital in the district of Setúbal to hold a plenary session and make a proposal to the administration of this local health facility, demanding a response to situations of “injustice”.
Immediate implementation of progress, proper transition of specialist nurses and overtime pay are, in general, the basic demands of nurses.
“Nurses, for example, have the right to progress that has not yet materialized there. There are problems with the calculation of points, which also affect their salaries, which have not yet been overcome there and which are errors that have already been resolved in other institutions precisely thanks to the intervention of the SSR,” he emphasized.
According to the union leader, these restrictions have already been overcome at the ULS Almada/Seixal and Arrábida, as well as in the district of Setúbal.
“We have a lack of dialogue here and a series of problems that result in debts of thousands of euros. This lack of dialogue is what leads us to this protest,” he explained.
Zorayma Prado said nurses from the old group of health centres had already complained about the way the transition was carried out and that ULS “has debts of at least 150 euros”.
Another issue raised by Zorayma Prado is the regularization of dozens of nurses at the Barreiro hospital whose work was not assessed because they were pregnant.
“We hope that there will be a reaction from the board of directors and the will to solve these problems,” he noted, noting that in the event of a negative response, new forms of struggle will be considered, namely a strike.
Lusa also contacted a source within the ULSAR administration who sent a possible response for the future.
The direct influence area of ULSAR is the municipalities of Barreiro, Moita, Montijo and Alcochete, which includes the Montijo District Hospital, the Nossa Senhora do Rosário (Barreiro) Hospital and the health centres of Alcochete, Barreiro, Quinta da Lomba, Moita, Montijo and Baixa da Banheira.
