Meet the rivals on the road of Sporting and Benfica in the ‘new’ Champions League.

This Thursday, Benfica and Sporting learned who their opponents will be in the Champions League. The draw for the renewed League took place in Monaco (17:00, live on CMTV) and was completely different from the previous model.

There will now be a single league of 36 participants, with each team playing eight games (four at home and four away) against two opponents from each of four baskets, depending on their UEFA ranking.

Prize draw:

From the first basket, the draw stipulated that Sporting would face Manchester City in Alvalade and also play Leipzig in Germany. Benfica would face Leipzig, also on German soil, and host Barcelona at the Estadio da Luz.

From the second basket, where Benfica is located, The Eagles host Atletico Madrid and travel to Italy to face Francisco Conceicao’s Juventus. The Lions played Club Brugge and Arsenal in Alvalade.

In Pot 3, Sporting will play Lille at home and PSV away. Benfica will play Estrela Vermelha away and host Feyenoord in Luz.
