More than 6,500 young people apply for emancipation aid from the Basque Government in its first six months

In its first six months of validity, More than 6,500 young people have requested emancipation aid from the Basque Government, Emanzipa, according to data provided this Friday by the Department of Welfare, Youth and Demographic Challenge.

The vast majority of applicants, 72.3%, have emancipated themselves or are going to do so under a regime of rent. The remaining 22.7% have applied for a home they are going to buy. Another relevant fact: almost 60% of the applications have been submitted by women. More than half of the applicants are from Bizkaia, a third from Gipuzkoa, and 15% from Álava. By municipality, 1,593 applications correspond to young people who are leaving home in Bilbao, 829 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, 811 in San Sebastián, 273 in Barakaldo and 177 in Getxo.

This benefit consists of a monthly payment of 300 eurosfor a maximum of 24 months, provided that a rental, mortgage or personal loan expense for a free home is accredited.

The Director of Youth of the Basque Government, Miren Saratxaga, has highlighted that the response obtained to date “is very positive” and corresponds to the forecasts made. “This response also confirms that the concept of Emantzipa aid responds to a real need of young people in their process of emancipation,” she said.
