Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said the US was ready to “turn the page” on Donald Trump and guaranteed that “supporting and strengthening the middle class” would be her priority.
In her first interview since becoming a candidate on Thursday with CNN International, Kamala Harris accused her Republican opponent and former President Donald Trump of pushing an agenda that aims to undermine the “character and strength” of Americans and “divide the nation.”
“I think people are ready to turn the page,” Harris said in Georgia alongside Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota and the candidate for vice president of the United States, in their first joint interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee.
When asked what her priority would be on her first day in the White House if elected, the current vice president focused on the economy and ensuring prosperity for the middle class through several policy proposals such as lowering food prices, investing in small businesses and the “American family,” and making housing more affordable.
Harris also said she would like to add a Republican to her cabinet if she wins the election.
“I think when you’re making some of the most important decisions, it’s important to have people at the table with different perspectives and experiences. And I think it would be helpful to the American public to have a member of my cabinet who is a Republican,” he said.
