The company will begin to implement it next Monday. LAB has explained that management has committed to ensuring that “there will be no forced layoffs, the conditions of those who retire early will be improved and those who have been laid off will have priority to return when there are vacancies.”
The assembly of workers at the Cementos Rezola plant located in the Añorga district of San Sebastián has voted in favour of the ERE proposal made by Heidelberg Materials, according to a statement from LAB.
LAB called a general meeting on Friday as the company will begin to implement the ERE, which affects 56 workers, half of the workforce, next Monday.
According to sources at this plant, in its latest proposal the management has committed to “There will be no forced layoffs, the conditions of early retirees will be improved and those who have been laid off will have priority return to the company when there are vacancies.”
The union has criticised the “attitude” of ELA during the assembly, in which, according to LAB, “it gave the attendees the directive not to participate in the vote and pressured those who wanted to vote not to do so.”
“In this way, the union’s corporate interests have been made manifest above the opinion of the workers,” criticises LAB.
Following the vote at the assembly, the works council passed the decision on to management.
For its part, ELA has explained that it does not approve of the company’s latest proposal, which it has described as “insufficient” since it contemplates “54 layoffs” instead of 56, by adding “two people to the early retirement plan.”
The union section of ELA has therefore decided to take the process to court. and has already filed a complaint against the Employment Regulation File (ERE). The union has stated that “we must continue fighting” because, in its opinion, “more can be achieved.”
ERE
Heidelberg Materials announced on August 12 that it had informed the Gipuzkoa territorial delegation of Labor and Social Security that it would execute the ERE presented in June after the consultation period with the legal representatives of the workers ended without an agreement.
The company then assured that, despite the lack of a final agreement with the negotiating committee, 52 of the 56 have accepted one of the proposed measures.
Specifically, according to the figures, 16 have joined the early retirement programme, 26 have joined the compensated redundancies with access to the “premium” external relocation service (8 of them over 54 years old); and 10 have opted for relocation to the Arrigorriaga factory.
