The Benfica president will soon announce the club’s new coach. “We are already looking to the future and very soon they will know who the new coach will be,” said Rui Costa.
“After four rounds, based on the results and performances, we felt it was time to change the coach,” explained the director, who believes the Reds have “many opportunities to turn things around.”
The Eagles have just two wins from four competitive matches, but Rui Costa stressed that “this season is not lost” and made it clear that he is not thinking “about elections” at the club.
This Saturday, Benfica announced that they would sack coach Roger Schmidt and are in talks with former Sporting coach Leonardo Jardim, while also evaluating the names of Abel Ferreira and Sergio Conceição.
