Former Prime Minister António Costa said the failure of the state budget talks would not be Pedro Nuno Santos’ fault, arguing that the PS leader has already shown plenty of evidence that he knows how to negotiate a budget.
During the question phase during a dinner at the Socialist Academy in Tomar, one of the young people who had participated in the political training questioned António Costa about the negotiations on the state budget for 2025 (OE2025) and the direction of the vote that the PS should adopt.
“On the state budget, I can really say this: I think that few people have as much experience as Pedro Nuno Santos in successfully negotiating a budget,” he began with emphasis in a short answer.
According to the former leader of the Social Democratic Party, “if the budget negotiations fail, it will certainly not be the fault of those who have already demonstrated so much evidence that they know how to negotiate a budget.”
Costa began by mentioning that he was lucky to have two successors: one as prime minister and the other leading the opposition as secretary general of the PS.
“Whoever governs contributes to the priorities, whoever leads the opposition contributes to the priorities,” he said.
