The restoration of frozen teacher working hours, which will last four years, begins today with about 5,000 teachers with verified data, less than 10% of those who have already accessed the platform to find out their working hours.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) confirmed on Friday that the effects of the full restoration of seniority will begin to reach primary and secondary teachers “as early as September, fulfilling the commitments made by the government.”
According to the department, at present “7,154 teachers have already confirmed their data, of which 5,327 have been confirmed by schools and have the opportunity to receive the corresponding salary adjustment in September.”
The remaining 1,827 processes have also been checked by teachers, but, according to the press service, are still “awaiting confirmation from the school principal.”
The deadline for completing each process to pay out September wage adjustments has been extended until the end of today.
The restoration of six years, six months and 23 days of work that were frozen during the Troika period has been one of the main flags of the teachers’ struggle in recent years, bringing thousands of teachers onto the streets and planning many strikes.
The current Education Department team reached an agreement with unions in May on a model that envisages a phased recovery over four years.
