Parliament is discussing this Thursday the possibility of adopting children under 18, increasing the age limit by three years, as well as other changes in the adoption process based on eight bills.
Bloco de Esquerda (BE), the Communist Party of Portugal (PCP), the People-Animals-Natureza (PAN), Livre and Iniciativa Liberal (IL) are introducing bills to raise the adoption age to 18 and who currently moment 15 years.
In general, various parties draw attention to the fact that the age limit of 15 leaves children between the ages of 16 and 18 in “suspension”, as they are not eligible for adoption, but have also not reached the age of majority, which “sentences to institutionalization”. .
