OECD opens coordinating office in Kyiv on March 1

The OECD will open a coordinating office with Ukraine in Kyiv on March 1, Secretary General of the organization Matthias Kormann said this Friday.

The office, which follows the one originally set up in Paris, will coordinate the implementation of Ukraine’s new cooperation program with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Kormann said in a statement.

The four-member office of the OECD will, when fully operational, be located at the Slovak embassy in Kiev and will be funded by Slovakia, as well as Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Romania.

Kormann stressed that it is necessary “as soon as possible” to reach a peace agreement under the terms of the resolution approved on Thursday by the UN General Assembly, which would serve the interests of the Ukrainian and Russian peoples.

However, he said that the OECD will continue to support Ukraine’s efforts to reconstruct and rebuild within the values of a free, open and market-oriented democracy with the high standards expected of a future member.

The OECD representative also recalled the support measures that the Paris-based organization has provided to Ukraine since the start of the Russian invasion, which this Friday marks exactly one year ago, such as coordinating donor countries and supporting the reconstruction of the country.
