Milana was born prematurely after a 28-week pregnancy at the height of the war. Dr. Ricardo Batista Leite had just arrived as a volunteer at the Lviv Regional Hospital in Ukraine when little Milana was born.
He weighed less than a kilogram and had a serious infection. The twin sister did not resist and died during childbirth.
“Here she is, eyes closed, frail, barely breathing, suspended between life and death. And the mother next to her, who can do nothing but pray,” wrote Ricardo Batista Leite in an emotional text next to morning Post.
Before leaving for Portugal, the doctor asked to return to neonatology with Milana. And here she is in her mother’s arms. “With rosy cheeks, already with a kilogram of weight and breathing without restrictions,” the doctor describes.
This Friday, the day we celebrate the anniversary of the war, Ricardo Batista Leite shares with cm picture of a wonder child. “Warrior girl,” she emphasizes.
PSD MP Ricardo Batista Leite recalled the history of Milan this Friday in Parliament. “When I met baby Milana, she weighed 700 grams and was fighting a severe systemic infection in an incubator,” the doctor said.
Ricardo Batista Leite added that today, a year after the start of the war, the “warrior girl” is already at home.
