The Judicial Police (PJ) announced this Saturday that a man suspected of a murder in Sintra almost 11 years ago, who was arrested in France and extradited to Portugal, has been taken into custody after being heard by a judge.
The 30-year-old man was arrested in January of this year “on strong grounds for committing the crime of aggravated murder,” the SP said in a statement.
The crime took place on May 30, 2012 in the municipality of Sintra (Lisbon), where, after a party in a commercial establishment, the suspect entered into a conversation with the victim on a public road, wielding a knife that stuck into him. in the chest, which led to his death, according to the GP.
The assailant immediately left the scene and disposed of the murder weapon before authorities arrived.
Later, the Judicial Board found that shortly thereafter the suspect left Portugal and went to France, where he remained unknown for several years.
Already in January of this year, the homicide department of the Judicial Police established the location of the suspect in France and, in cooperation with the French Judicial Police, “his arrest was carried out in accordance with the European arrest warrant.”
According to the joint venture, the suspect was extradited on February 16 with the assistance of the department of international cooperation and was present at the first judicial interrogation, to which a measure of restraint in the form of detention was applied.
