ASAE learns that 900 kg of food is unfit for consumption at a facility in Barreiro

The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) has suspended the operation of a catering and warehouse facility in the municipality of Barreiro and confiscated 900 kg of animal products unsuitable for consumption.

The ASAE said in a statement that in the course of the action, following a request for cooperation from the Regional Directorate of Health (ARS) to a catering company and a corresponding warehouse in the municipality of Barreiro, Setúbal district, it was confirmed that the economic operator was manipulating food unfit for consumption.

ASAE states that during the action it was verified that the operator did not have the minimum hygienic and technical and functional conditions for handling and selling food products.

As part of the inspection operation, 900 kg of food products of animal origin (fish and meat products) with an estimated value of 10,000 euros were seized, which, after an examination, were classified as “abnormally damaged” with no requirements. and sent for destruction.

As a result of the action, “a criminal case was initiated on the fact of the sale of low-quality, damaged food products with the notification of the competent judicial authority.”

ASAE also indicates that the suspension of activities is still determined until the identified inconsistencies are corrected.
