Softgrid Computers, an Indian technology company, wants to counter the trend of people working more and more. To do this, they programmed the computers to automatically turn off at the end of the work shift.
Ten minutes before the end of the shift, a message appears on the screen notifying workers that as soon as the shift ends, the computer will automatically turn off and read: “Please go home.”
According to Reuters, the first few times they came across the message, the workers were shocked. Company director Mohammad Ali Fani said that most workers are used to companies where they have to ask for permission to leave, and therefore such a shock reaction was normal.
“We believe in work-life balance, we believe that when you are happy with your family, you work very well,” said Mohammad Ali Fani.
Softgrid employees, who number about 40, say they sleep better and are more motivated after the measure was introduced.
