CGTP Equality Week starts today with various promotions in the country

Equality Week promoted by CGTP starts this Monday and runs until Friday with various initiatives in the country including gatherings, strikes, parades and demonstrations especially on the 8th International Women’s Day.

The CGTP Commission on Equality Between Women and Men is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Equality Week initiative with the motto “Increasing Wages to Change Lives and Advance Equality”.

According to the CGTP communiqué, the program reaches more than a thousand companies, schools and other institutions during the week, where plenary and doorstep meetings will be held with the participation of workers and their testimonies of inequality. , discrimination and failures that occur in the workplace, as well as solutions and suggestions for their elimination.

The week starts this Monday with hundreds of plenary meetings across the country and various community initiatives called “Igualdade está na Rua” in ten regions (Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Santarem, Lisbon, Faro, Funchal and Ponta Delgada ). ).

In Porto, a meeting of workers from Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Póvoa do Varzim is scheduled for this Monday, while in Aveiro there is a “tour for equality” and in Figueira da Foz (Coimbra district) there is a meeting at the door of the Cofis Company.

In Fundão (Castelo Branco) a street action is planned with testimonies, and in Leiria a public gallery with demonstrations in Santarem and Faro.

In Lisbon, the CGTP is promoting a meeting of a delegation of nurses “discriminated for maternity” next to the Secretary of State for Equality and Migration.

“The situation of working women in Portugal is deteriorating even more than that of working men, namely in terms of employment, wages, working hours, professional careers and social protection,” the CGTP said in a statement.
