Basic food in Portugal is more expensive than in Spain, despite lower wages.

Prices for basic foodstuffs in Portuguese supermarkets continue to rise and already exceed those in Spain, Germany and France, despite lower wages and higher taxes in Portugal.

ABOUT Newspaper compared the prices of the 13 cheapest products sold in the only supermarket chain with an online store in Portugal, Spain and France – Auchan – and found that supermarkets in Portugal sell more than in Spain. Compared to the values that the French and Germans practice, the prices in Portugal are lower, but considering the minimum wage in each country, the Portuguese put in the most effort.

In Portugal, Auchan spaghetti costs almost 60% more than in Spain, despite the fact that the product is exactly the same.
