Tax authorities rejected 120 thousand alimony due to IBAN

The Tax and Customs Administration (AT) has already processed more than four million emergency family assistance payments, which is about 85% of the total, of which 120 thousand were rejected due to an invalid IBAN on the Financial Portal.

The data was released this Monday by the Ministry of Finance, which in a statement says that after 4,020,641 support payments have already been processed, the first phase of transfers “will end with the processing of about 700,000 more payments that will be in progress.”

More than four million payments already made correspond to approximately 85% of the emergency support that AT is expected to receive.

The ministry, headed by Fernando Medina, also adds that there are still about 120,000 payment orders “that were rejected due to invalid IBANs on the financial portal.”

Those 120,000 currently observed are fewer than the failures recorded when this operation began, the statement said, stating that “approximately 2.1 million IBANs have already been updated on the financial portal since the beginning of September.”

The waiver does not mean that those concerned will not receive support as, as mentioned, AT will continue to “consecutively attempt to transfer this emergency income support over the next six months.”

Thus, taxpayers who have not yet done so must verify and/or update their IBAN in the Financial Portal registry, a feature they can access by going to https://www.acesso.gov.pt/v2/loginForm? partID=DCII&path=/data/iban/change.

A new information note published on the Financial Portal explains that AT has provided taxpayers “for many years now with the option of registering an IBAN associated with their registration / NIF, which is individually recorded in the taxpayer’s registration. information pertaining to their financial relationship with AT.”

This is what happens when, for example, a person opens an activity and must provide an IBAN to link to the green tickets they issue.

“Additionally and solely for the purpose of obtaining an IRS refund, taxpayers may report on an IRS (Model 3) return a different IBAN” for an IRS refund that is used only for support payments when the taxpayer “does not have an IBAN associated with your TIN, or the IBAN is not located in the “Confirmed” status.

This is an emergency support of €125 to all residents of the country who declared a gross annual income of up to 37,800 on the IRS Model 3 income tax return for 2021 and €50 for a person who is considered an “established” dependent. on your tax return.” , regardless of the income received by the “parental” guardians or the dependent himself.

In cases where a person is a pensioner or recipient of social benefits, the benefit is paid by Social Security.
