To show that they had a good financial situation, the scammers called themselves doctors, primarily approaching victims who offered high-class cars for sale on Internet sites. In October 2019, they fictitiously bought a Ferrari Modena F1 for €90,000.
The deal was closed for 87 thousand euros. The seller demanded confirmation of the bank transfer, and another member of the group sent a fictitious document. Since the meetings took place at the end of the day, it was not possible to confirm the authenticity of the documents. Already having the cars in their possession, they registered them in the names of third parties and placed the cars on the Spanish market. There they were sold at a lower price.
The scheme would later be exposed and the group liquidated. The 17 defendants are on trial in Viseu and the second hearing will take place this Wednesday.
