The Inspector General of Finance (IGF) said this Wednesday that it was “completely calm” with the review of Alexandra Reis’ departure from TAP, saying she did not hear “a number” of legal entities in person following allegations from the exonerated TAP CEO.
In response to the Lusa IGF, which Christine Urmier-Widener accused of “discriminatory behaviour”, said the exonerated executive president (CEO) was not the only one not heard in person.
“There were a number of other persons who were not heard in person, and clarifications were received in writing,” he assured.
According to the organization, “the methodologies adopted by the IGF contribute to cost savings, so in the case of Christine Urmier-Widener, the IGF duly took note of all the statements made at the hearings in the Assembly of the Republic, asked her to provide specific clarifications on specific issues left open in the answers members, to which Christine Urmier-Widener responded in writing.”
In addition, he emphasized, “in the light of the controversy, Christine Urmier-Widener was aware of all the allegations that appeared in the final report, and in this context was able to once again present her version of the facts.” .
The organization also argued that “the reference to possible ‘discriminatory behavior’ on the part of the IGF appears to be the result of poor reading by some media outlets who confuse this adversarial claim with a reaction to the report.”
“The IGF is completely calm about the methodology adopted in this work, and I am sure that it has provided all interested parties with the opportunity to express their opinion on the facts under consideration,” he assured.
In a controversial statement released on Monday, the manager expressed “bewilderment to find that, unfortunately, she was the only person directly involved” in the process “who was not personally heard at the IGF.”
“This discriminatory behavior on the part of the IGF has been duly recorded and all legal consequences will be removed in due course,” the document says.
TAP’s CEO was exonerated by the government on Monday, as was board chairman Manuel Beja after an IGF audit concluded that the agreement to leave Alexandra Reis was invalid and that compensation would have to be returned.
