The Lisbon Patriarchate announced this Friday that five priests suspected of sexual harassment are still active in Lisbon. The Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults of the Lisbon Patriarchate received a list of 24 names, which the Independent Commission sent to Cardinal Patriarch D. Manuel Clemente of Lisbon.
Of these 24 names, eight priests have died, two are sick and retired, three are without office, five are active, four are unknown, and one refers to a layman and the other to a person who has left the priesthood.
Based on this list, the Diocesan Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults of the Lisbon Patriarchate “immediately asked the Independent Commission for data on the name list so that recommendations could be delivered to the Cardinal Patriarch, which he allows to justify by banning the public exercise of ministry by active priests and taking over due responsibility in supporting and respecting the dignity of the victims”.
