The cost of eggs in Portugal increased by 46.2%

The price of eggs in the European Union (EU) rose more than 30% in January, with Portugal registering an above-average increase of 27% (46.2%), according to data released this Friday by the public space statistics authority. , Eurostat.

In a bulletin on the prices of eggs, one of the foodstuffs for which inflation rates have risen the most, the European statistical office notes that they have risen since January 2022, with an annual acceleration of 30.2% in December 2022 and 30. 4% in January 2023.

Among Member States, the largest annual increase in egg prices was recorded in January in the Czech Republic (85%), Hungary (80%) and Slovakia (79%). The countries where egg prices rose the least but were still high were Germany and Luxembourg (18% each) and Austria (19%).

In Portugal, egg prices rose by 46.2% in January compared to the same month in 2022, the second drop since peaking at 53.5% in November 2022. In the EU, inflation peaked for this particular product in January. (30.4%).

In January, 27 Community countries reached an average inflation rate of 10% compared to the same month last year, compared to 5.6% in January 2022.
