Mount Merapi, one of the most active in the world, located in the central part of the Indonesian island of Java, erupted this Saturday and is spewing a stream of hot lava over a distance of more than 1.5 kilometers with clouds of smoke and intense ash.
The images show a strong dusting, which is felt in this region. Local authorities have already issued several warnings, although there has been no need to evacuate the population yet, the Center for Research and Control of Geological Disasters (BPPTKG, Indonesian acronym) said in a statement.
In a statement, the Center warns the population of the cities closest to the volcano to avoid “danger zones” within a radius of three to seven kilometers around the crater.
