A 21-year-old man died this Sunday after running a half marathon in Elche, Spain. The young athlete collapsed as soon as he crossed the finish line, and medical services on site did “everything possible” to take him to the hospital “urgently”, according to race organizers on their social networks.
The incident took place this Sunday in Elche, Alicante, after the young man completed his 50th half marathon, which was attended by almost three thousand runners. After a first treatment at the medical services of the race, he was taken by ambulance to Elche General Hospital, according to a statement released by the City Council, which a country had access. The race took place on a day marked by temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius.
The mayor of Elche has already expressed condolences to the young man’s family and thanked the work done by the health services, volunteers, police and other members of the organization for “helping a participant who unfortunately passed away.”
