China delivered 1,062 tons of rice to Guinea-Bissau this Monday to combat food insecurity in the country, caused not only by the effects of covid-19, but also by rising food prices.
“The people of Guinea-Bissau thank the brotherly people of the People’s Republic of China for another donation made at a time we know is crucial, at a time when we all know what are the consequences of the established crisis, and not just for covid-19, but also because of the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has made food more expensive and means the population is suffering the consequences,” said Suzy Barbosa, head of Guinean diplomacy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guinea-Bissau stressed that it was “a very brotherly humanitarian gesture on the part of the brotherly people of China”, reminding that this rice is needed by the Guinean people.
The Minister also recalled that the improvement of living conditions is a priority of the President of the Republic, Umaro Sissoko Embalo, and that support will be extended to all regions of the country through the structures of the President of the Republic, so that “people who spend more time on needs can overcome the food crisis, which is observed not only in Guinea-Bissau, but also in the interior.”
Chinese Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau Guo Xie said the moment is deepening cooperation between the two countries and is part of “food aid offered by the Chinese government to various African countries, including 1,062 tons offered to the government of Guinea.” Bissau “Bissau”.
“This food aid is one of the results of the implementation of the Global Development Initiative proposed by the President of China in 2021. It is also the implementation of new programs announced at the 8th China-Africa Cooperation Forum Ministerial Conference.” – said the ambassador.

On behalf of the President of Guinea-Bissau, Caliph Soares Kassama guaranteed that 21,239 sacks of rice would be distributed to all regions of Guinea-Bissau and the distribution operation would begin shortly.
“China is a very important and strategic partner of Guinea-Bissau. The results of cooperation speak for themselves in the field of infrastructure and health, and now in the field of food security,” he said.
Kalifa Soares Kassama also said that the rice will be delivered to its destination and said that if any bag of rice donated by China is sold in the market, the President of Guinea is ready to receive complaints to forward them to the competent authorities.
