Palmeiras is the new Brazilian football champion. The Abel Ferreira-led team won the title that had eluded Verdão since 2018 in a 0-1 defeat by Internacional to America Mineiro in Belo Horizonte on matchday 35 of the championship.
Winner of two consecutive Libertadores (2020 and 2021), Copa Brazil (2020), South American Recop (2022) and Campeonato Paulista (2022), the Portuguese coach will add the title of Brazilian coach to his resume.
Abel Ferreira is the third coach to win the Brasileirão, Libertadores, Taça do Brasil and State Championship titles for the same team, after Cookie for Atlético Mineiro and Luiz Felipe Scolari for Gremio.
Palmeiras takes the field this morning (from 00:30) against Fortaleza already with the title in his pocket.
