According to ACAP – Associação Automóvel de Portugal, the electric vehicle market grew by 22.6% between January and October, when 47,497 vehicles were sold.
The association said in a statement that 5,044 units were sold in October alone, up 12.4% over the same period last year.
By category, 4,907 new electric, plug-in and hybrid electric vehicles were registered in October, up 10.3% from the same month in 2021.
Between January and October, this market was 46,843 units, up 21.6% over the first 10 months of the previous year.
“In terms of electric vehicles, there was an 11.2% decrease in October 2022 compared to the same month in 2021, with 1,400 new passenger cars registered,” the same note says.
Over a 10-month period, growth was 44.4% with 13,592 units sold.
In turn, the market for plug-in electric hybrids and light trucks more than tripled (270.3%) from the same month in 2021, when 137 units were registered.
This market reached 653 units between January and October, again more than three times (233.2%) the value obtained in the same period in 2021.
In October, the number of registrations of new electric vehicles increased by 291.4% compared to the same month in 2021, and an increase of 253.9% was recorded from January to October.
On the contrary, in relation to the market of heavy vehicles, which includes cars and trucks, the fall was 100%.
In cumulative terms, this market fell by 75%, with one unit sold.
