Strike of civil servants closes many schools and leaves at least hospitals

Commitment to strike this Friday among civil servants is high, with many schools closed and hospitals operating at minimum, according to the Common Front, which has called for a strike.

“Currently, there is not much concrete data yet, but the information that we have is that hospitals are performing minimal services, namely in hospitalization and emergency care. Some schools are closed, as well as the Citizen’s Store in Porto,” he said. journalists coordinator of the Common Front Sebastian Santana, shortly after 9:00.

A trade unionist who spoke to reporters at the entrance to the Social Security building in Lisbon stressed that this membership “demonstrates the dissatisfaction of the workers with the whole labor situation.

The nationwide strike of civil servants, which began at 00:00 this Friday, began with the arrival of the night shift for healthcare and municipal solid waste (household waste) workers, who were thus the first to strike.

Among the reasons for the strike called by the Common Front are the demand for an immediate increase in wages, the establishment of maximum price limits for goods and services, the evaluation of careers, and the strengthening of public services.

In the education sector, the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) announced this week that teachers and educators will take part in the strike, and workers outside the education sector have been given advance notice by the Common Front.

A national demonstration, promoted by the CGTP, is scheduled for Saturday in Lisbon for a general increase in wages and pensions due to the rising cost of living.
