Lakuntza underlines the “success” of the social mobilization before the pension reform in France

The general secretary of ELA, Mitxel Lakuntza, has highlighted the “success” of the social mobilization in France against the pension reform, one day after the French government passed two motions of censure against it. “The strength and commitment of the unions in defense of pensions is evident. To a large extent, French society has taken to the streets and that is what has conditioned everything,” he added.

As for the Spanish State, the two parties that support the Government have agreed with the UGT and CCOO on the reform of pensions with the approval of the European Union. Interviewed on the “Faktoria” program of Euskadi Irratia, Lakuntza stated that the left cannot accept what has been agreed. “The reforms of previous years are perpetuated quite naturally: Should the left recognize that retirement at 67 years is forever? Does it have to give the go-ahead to the calculation of pensions at 25 years?, has been asked.

Lakuntza has admitted that the investiture partners have tried to soften the effects of the pension reform, but that it is not enough. For example, he has explained that the increases for the lowest pensions are very small, in some cases, ten euros, and that they will not equal the minimum wage.

Faced with the demographic challenge, Lakuntza proposes paying the pension deficit through taxes. And it is that he has argued that there is money because large companies are obtaining the greatest benefits in their history.
