Low-cost airline Ryanair announced today that it posted a profit of €1,371 million in its first financial half (April-September), compared to a loss of €47.6 million recorded in the same period in 2021.
The Dublin-based company attributed the “strong gain” (gross value) to, among other things, what it called “operational robustness”, the resumption of passenger traffic and an increase in airfares for the holiday season during the summer.
Ryanair says in a statement released today that it carried 91.1 million passengers in the first half of 2022, up 143% from last year, which it says “confirms” the recovery of the sector hit by the health crisis. .
Ticket prices rose by 7% in this (financial) period, and in July and August, the increase was 14% compared to 2021 values, which “offsets” the fall seen in the first quarter of this marked year. for the war in Ukraine.
In this context, Ryanair received €6,620 million between April and September: 207% more than in 2021, after opening 15 new bases and implementing 770 additional routes.
