The Minister ensures that there are currently no negotiations with potential buyers of TAP

Infrastructure and Housing Minister Pedro Nuno Santos said Monday that there are no talks with potential TAP buyers and that it has not yet been determined when the airline’s privatization process will begin.

“No, it’s not,” said Pedro Nuno Santos in response to the MP from the “Liberal Initiative” (IL) Carlos Guimarães Pinto, who, after the minister’s statement that the privatization process had not yet been determined, insisted that “therefore, on At the moment there are no negotiations with a potential buyer?

The IL MP also pushed to find out if Pedro Nuno Santos could confirm that the privatization of TAP would take place in 2023, if it would be more than 50% of the capital, and if after the privatization the state plans to maintain any kind of commitment or give some kind of guarantee on TAP’s debt, but Pedro Nuno Santos’ response was no different from the original entry.

“We declared the goal of opening the capital of TAP, because the goal was never set to keep 100% of TAP. (…) This process has not started yet and we cannot give an answer about the process that has not started,” said the minister, who is currently being heard in the Finance and Budget Commission as part of the proposal for the state budget for 2023 (OE2023 ).

The IL MP also wanted to know if the injection of money into TAP did not protect the 5% of the capital that the workers had in the company, and the minister mentioned that the negotiations held with Brussels on the TAP restructuring plan led to a demand that the injection of money into the company turned into capital, so that in this context “all shares are blurred”.

Earlier, Andre Ventura from Chega had already brought TAP to an audition, asking the minister about the number of flight cancellations. In his response, the minister accused the deputy of “mixing everything up” in defending the intervention in the TAR, but criticized the money [injetado]not wanting to privatize TAR, but wanting to know how much the state would lose.

PCP’s Paula Santos asked Pedro Nuno Santos about the end of TAP’s pay cuts after the company recorded a €111 million profit in the third quarter, but the minister said the conditions were still not there.

“We can’t finish the cuts” as long as the company continues to be unprofitable, said Pedro Nuno Santos, who recognized the sacrifices workers are making and that the company is recovering faster than expected.
