An unusual own goal by goalkeeper Miguel Santos in the 65th minute allowed Benfica B to return this Monday (2: 1) in the match at Trofense in the game of the 12th round of the Football League II.
Trofa, looking to avoid relegation places (now in 16th position with eight points), came into the match stronger, accumulating several scoring chances throughout the first half.
Despite the first opportunity in two minutes, a shot at Joao Neves, the visiting team failed to turn their best ball possession into scoring chances throughout the first half.
In the 20th minute, Trofense came very close to opening the scoring when Wilson Caleira took advantage of Beni’s low cross and shot just inches from the post defended by Samuel Soares.
After a corner, Mutsinzi saved another header from Beni in the 32nd minute to make it 1-0 for Trofense.
Diogo Capitao, at 45+6, came very close to scoring a goal with a good header, which was the best opportunity for Luz’s second team in the entire first half.
In the second half, Benfica B proved to be much more competent with the ball and created several chances on rebounds, creating several chances to drag out Trofense’s defense that noticeably lowered the block to hold the result.
In the 49th minute, Cher Ndur shot on the edge of the penalty area with some danger to Miguel Santos’ hands, before Luis Semedo also tried his luck (53) with a shot that forced the goalkeeper to make a good intervention.
Luis Semedo, who was Benfica’s main attacking threat, headed shortly after the post (61), dangerously responding to a cross from Rafael Rodríguez.
In the 65th minute, goalkeeper Samuel Soares shot spectacularly from one zone to another, the ball crossed the entire field and hit the crossbar, and then saved Miguel Santos’s shot and entered the goal, which was the most important and unusual move of the game.
The goal encouraged the “incarnations” B-team, who shortly thereafter, after facilitating Trofense’s defense, saw Semedo fail on his own against Team Trofa’s goalkeeper.
Given Benfica’s strong dominance, the winning goal was naturally scored in the 81st minute by Luis Semedo after Ndura’s coup on the left pass to make it 2–1, a result that remained until the end of the match.
With this victory, Luis Castro’s side won their fourth consecutive victory, finishing third in the II Liga with 22 points, while Trofense increased their number of games without a win to five and are in 16th position.
