“According to the preliminary results obtained in this financial year, in 2022 the balance sheet of general government (GI) reached -944.4 million euros, which corresponded to -0.4% of GDP (-2.9% in 2021)”, — according to the report of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The government has estimated a deficit of 1.9% of GDP in the proposed state budget for 2023 (OE2023), but Prime Minister António Costa and Finance Minister Fernando Medina have already signaled that they believe the deficit will be less than 1.5%.
