Technical problems at Lufthansa cause delays at Frankfurt Airport

Lufthansa’s operations were interrupted this Sunday at Frankfurt Airport, Germany’s largest, due to technical problems, German news agency DPA reported.

A Lufthansa spokeswoman told DPA that the airline’s online and over-the-counter check-in and boarding systems were affected, causing some flights to be delayed or cancelled.

According to the carrier, check-in can be done using a mobile phone or “tablet” and the Lufthansa app.

Technical problems were caused by external service providers: Lufthansa asked travelers to check the status of their flights, while saying that it intends to solve the problems.

Last month, cable problems during work in Frankfurt brought the Lufthansa computer service to a halt, leading to the cancellation and delay of flights around the world.

The troubles seen today come a day before a nationwide strike in Germany that is expected to paralyze the country as workers at airports, trains and public transport protest wage increases, a shutdown only expected to come on Monday.

Due to the strike, air traffic has already been canceled at the second largest airport in Germany, Munich.
