Portuguese rider Miguel Oliveira this Sunday regretted pulling out of the Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix after being knocked down by Spaniard Marc Marquez in an “over-ambitious manoeuvre” that prevented him from pursuing his “first podium” of the season.
Speaking to reporters behind the pits, Miguel Oliveira (Aprilia) said the incident was “easy to explain”.
“It was quite an ambitious overtaking attempt. [Marc Márquez] There was no place to stop, avoided the rider in front of him [o espanhol Jorge Martin] and hit me,” the Portuguese pilot said.
Miguel Oliveira, who has already spoken to Marc Marquez (Honda), said he knows “it wasn’t done on purpose” and that “it’s clear that the apology has been accepted.”
However, he did not fail to criticize the Spanish pilot’s “too ambitious” maneuver, who reportedly told the Portuguese he was having brake problems.
“When you have problems with the brakes, you brake earlier, not later, and we don’t try to overtake,” said the Portuguese rider of Aprilia.
Oliveira also lamented that Marquez “was injured [fratura na mão direita]”and leaves doubts about the recovery for the next race a week later in Argentina.
“I don’t know if I will be 100% fit, but I will try. I have a very large bruise on my right leg. We know that there are no fractures of the femoral neck, but we are still going to do an MRI to rule out possible damage to the ligaments, ”explained Miguel Oliveira.
The driver from Almada says the result is “even more disappointing knowing he can do well” in the Algarve race.
“I had a good start, the first lap was the first and when Pekko [Bagnaia] overtook me, I knew I had room for improvement because the tires were still cold. It’s too inglorious for the race to end so quickly, with so much anticipation that has been generated,” Oliveira lamented.
The Portuguese rider was knocked down by Marc Marquez early in the third lap while he was second in the MotoGP race at the Portuguese Grand Prix, the first round of the World Speed Championship.
The winner was the Italian Francesco Bagna (Ducati).
