In 2022, Portuguese companies laid off an average of three pregnant women or recent mothers, according to Jornal de Notícias.
Last year, 1,395 complaints were received from companies that did not renew fixed-term contracts with pregnant or breastfeeding mothers. Only eight reported cases are of men on parental leave.
In 2022, the Commission for Equality in Employment and Employment (CITE) issued 60 termination notices for 63 pregnant women and five workers on parental leave.
