Unions call strike in Osakidetza for May 18 and 19

The unions ELA, Satse, LAB, the Euskadi Medical Union (SME), CC. oo. and UGT have called strike throughout the Osakidetza network for the days May 18 and 19 to denounce “the dismantling of public health” and demand from the Department of Health “political will” to adopt the “immediate and far-reaching solutions” that Osakidetza needs.

In a press conference held in Bilbao, the union representatives have criticized the “serious situation that Osakidetza is going through” and “the blocking of negotiations”, with a Department of Health that, in their opinion, “has decided to remain deaf and dumb before the clamor of the street”, referring to the massive demonstrations on February 25.

According to the union majority (ESK has been left out of the call), the situation is “especially worrying” in Primary Care, for which “Osakidetza has no other plan than to continue cutting back.” Sample of this “dismantling”, according to the plants, are the “closures and cuts” in different Ongoing Service Points (PAC), the intention of “extending the reduction of hours throughout the year”.

ELA, Satse, LAB, SME, CC. oo. and UGT assure that the department directed by Gotzone Sagardui has turned “the mantra of the lack of professionals” into the “perfect excuse for Osakidetza to implement measures that would be very difficult to justify.” They add that the retirements in the coming years “are going to make this situation worse”, and denounce that, given this, Osakidetza’s plan is to do nothing about it.”

Likewise, they have accused the Osakidetza management of carrying out a “systematic mistreatment of the staff”, whose situation is “increasingly precarious”, as well as the attention offered to the public is also increasingly precarious”.

After denouncing that the Sector Table continues “absolutely blocked” and that the Department of Health and the counselor, Gotzone Sagardui, “systematically refuse to discuss and negotiate” the issues raised by the union, they have assured that Osakidetza will not let them “More path than mobilization”

The problems of our public health are structural and prior to the pandemic, and require immediate and deep solutions”, they have warned, to demand Osakidetza and the Department of Health “political will to, beyond propaganda, make public health a real priority”.
