The Council of Ministers approved this Wednesday a decree-law that extends until the end of 2023 the regime setting the reference price for natural gas consumed in the production of electricity sold on the Iberian electricity market, with the aim of lowering the corresponding prices, the government said in a statement.
“Given the prospect of maintaining the current geopolitical and economic scenario, it is important to extend the initially determined period, as well as to revise the rules for calculating, adjusting and settling the costs of electricity generation in the relevant wholesale market in order, on the one hand, to continue to provide fair compensation to electricity producers from natural gas, and on the other hand, to guarantee the protection of consumers of electricity,” the statement says.
According to the same source, this measure is the result of the joint work of the governments of Portugal and Spain.
