Kutxabank proposes Eduardo Ruiz de Gordejuela as CEO

He will become the number two of the financial institution, replacing Francisco Javier García Lurueña.

Kutxabank’s Board of Directors has proposed to appoint Eduardo Ruiz de Gordejuela as the new CEO of the entity, replacing Francisco Javier García Lurueña whose mandate ends this June. Before his definitive appointment, Ruiz de Gordejuela must pass a suitability test of the European Central Bank, a matter that must be addressed within a maximum period of three months.

For his part, García Lurueña will end his contract as CEO, but will continue to be linked to the group as president of CajaSur.

With a degree in Economics and Business Administration from Deusto and a Master’s in Knowledge Management from the same University, Eduardo Ruiz de Gordejuela joined the former BBK in 1992 and has spent his entire professional career within this financial group. In 2008 he was appointed director of the Retail Business in Bizkaia and deputy general manager a year later.

Since Kutxabank was established in 2012, he has been a member of the Bank’s Management Committee, initially in his capacity as deputy general manager and later, since 2018, as general manager of Kutxabank’s Retail Business. He is also president of Fineco, Kutxabank Private Bank and member of the Board of Directors of Cajasur.

Ruiz de Gordejuela He said he was “excited for being in charge of a great human team” and being “aware of the challenge of living up to the trust and expectations of the bank’s customers” and “of the importance of Kutxabank in society”. He explained that a Once the process of resizing the branch network has been completed “the priority must now be to improve customer servicebased on personalized attention, closeness, transparency and professionalism”.

His functions as director of the Retail Business will pass into the hands of Aitor Aranburu, until now the head of the personal banking area.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Kutxabank, Antón Arriola, has stated that this appointment comes at a time of “great strength and opportunity” for the entity that has to “bet on investing in the future in order to achieve greater growth and greater diversification of their sources of income.
