Businessmen and other employees who depend on local housing are protesting across the country this Thursday against measures that must be approved by the government under the Mais Habitação program.
Protesters have criticized the government’s decision to end new licenses in cities and warn that many families are dependent on local housing to survive.
In Lisbon, workers and owners staged a referendum for Mayor Carlos Moedas to present their views on the program.
Carlos Moedas expressed his support for the demonstrators and also criticized the measures of the government housing program. “We cannot take action in this area without mayors,” he said.
The protesters argue that if action is taken, the sector will end.
