The Chega leader announced this Friday that former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini will arrive in Lisbon in May for a meeting organized by the party with far-right figures from many countries.
In a video message sent to the newsrooms, André Ventura assured that Bolsonaro and Salvini had already confirmed their presence in Lisbon “at the great event of world law” organized by Chega and taking place on 13 and 14 May.
“Bolsonaro will arrive in Lisbon on the 12th and will leave on the 15th, according to a message officially received yesterday by Chegoy,” the party said in a statement sent to reporters.
In the video, Ventura claims that the event will “put Lisbon at the center of the right-wing world”.
“The presence of Jair Bolsonaro, Matteo Salvini and many other leaders of the European right makes Lisbon one of the new centers of the strongest right in Europe and one of the world’s landmarks in the fight against socialism,” he said.
Leader Chegi called for participation in the event and praised the party’s “recognition from international colleagues”.
On March 23, André Ventura confirmed that he was organizing a “large-scale event” to bring together leaders of the European far right, as well as former Brazilian and US presidents Jair Bolsonaro and Donald Trump, in Lisbon.
At a press conference in Lisbon, Andre Ventura indicated that the party had also invited “several leaders of the European right”, including Santiago Abascal of Spain’s Vox, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, whom Chega was “very fond of having in his lineup”. Portugal”.
The purpose of this event, he said at the time, is to be analogous to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which is considered the most important meeting of the ultra-conservative movement in the United States of America.
“The idea was to be very similar to the North American CPAC,” with speeches, conferences, moments of interaction, and “sometimes rallies with some of the more popular leaders or with more mobilization,” he said.
Matteo Salvini was already present in 2021 at the Chega Congress, which took place in Coimbra.
