Strikes at CP – Comboios de Portugal have resulted in the cancellation of 195 trains out of 1,087 scheduled until 7 p.m. Monday, an official source at the company said.
According to the latest balance sent to Lusa, 892 trains were carried out, while 17.9% of the planned ones were suppressed.
The highest percentage of cancellations (29%) falls on the regional service: 184 trains were sent out of the planned 259.
In long-distance traffic, 11 trains were recalled and 54 were running.
In turn, 15.3% (79) of the 518 planned city trips to Lisbon did not take place.
Until 19:00, 24 city trains from Coimbra were conducted and four were suppressed.
Among regular city buses in Porto (217), 26 (12%) were banned, while 191 ran.
A few days later, the strike in CP and Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) starts at the eighth hour of work.
In addition, until the end of the month, “at the CP, workers whose normal working hours are more than three hours in the period from 00:00 to 05:00 will strike from the seventh hour of work,” and between April 10 and 30 at the IP, “workers who whose normal working time is more than three hours between 00:00 and 05:00, declare a strike from the seventh hour of work.
These strikes were announced by the trade union platform, consisting of ASCEF – Allied Association of Middle Managers for Railway Research; SINFB – National Union of Railway Workers of the Brace Tribe and Related Workers; o SINFA – Independent Trade Union of Railway Transport, Infrastructure and Related Industries Workers; FENTECOP – National Union of Transport, Communications and Public Works; SIOFA – Independent Union of Railway Workers, etc.; ASSIFECO – Independent Trade Union Association of Commercial Railway Workers and STF – Railway Technical Services.
The National Union of Drivers of the Portuguese Railways (SMAQ) also announced a new strike at CP during April due to the “disdain” it accuses the company of.
Workers’ demands include “efficient wage increases”, “traction career evaluation” and improved working conditions in driver’s cabs and social facilities, as well as safety conditions on lines and in parks to protect motor material.
There is still demand for “humanization of duty lists, fixed meal times and reduction of rest time outside headquarters”, “an effective protocol for psychological support of train drivers in case of people getting stuck on the way and accidents” and “recognition and assessment of professional requirements and training of drivers by a new legislative framework “.
